Beyond the Need for Perfect Approval

By the Pace with Grace editorial team

Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.

What would it be like to live without the weight of needing perfect approval from everyone? To not be held back by the fear of what others think?

Paul wrote to the Galatians, who were struggling with this very issue. They were trying to please both God and the people around them, which was tearing them apart.

Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.

Galatians 1:10

The question is not about ignoring others' opinions altogether, but about where our sense of self-worth comes from. Is it from perfect approval, or from something deeper?

You don't have to be perfect to be worthy. You don't have to have it all together to be loved. The freedom to be yourself, without the need for perfect approval, is a gift.

God, I'm tired of trying to please everyone. I'm tired of the weight of perfect approval. Help me find my worth in you, not in the opinions of others. Help me be free to be myself, without apology. Amen.

When this hits in real life.
