Beyond the Expected Path

By the Pace with Grace editorial team

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

You've probably been asked what you want to be when you grow up. Or what your five-year plan is. Or what you're doing with your life.

The thing is, purpose isn't always a straight line. It's not always a clear, step-by-step guide. Sometimes it's a winding road with unexpected turns.

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Jeremiah 29:11-13

This verse was written to people in exile, people who were far from home and unsure of their future. It's a reminder that God's plans for us are good, even when our circumstances are hard.

So what does it mean to seek God with all your heart? It means being honest with Him about your doubts and fears. It means trusting Him even when you don't understand what's going on.

God, I don't always know what I'm doing. I don't always know what's next. But I trust that You have plans to prosper me, plans to give me hope and a future. Help me seek You with all my heart, even when it's hard. Amen.

When this hits in real life.
